Geothermal energy is a form of renewable energy produced from the extreme heat of the Earth’s core. Geothermal energy is harvested by drilling wells up to two miles deep into the Earth and using pipes to move hot water, with temperatures ranging from 300°F to 700°F, to the surface and turning it into steam. This steam is then directed towards a turbine that generates electricity. Because these plants do not burn fuel to generate electricity, they produce clean base-load energy that is greenhouse gas emission free.
