February 28 -  8:00AM - 5:00PM

Company: Grid Reliability Consulting

Overview:  Bulk electric system entities registered with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) are required to comply with the NERC reliability standards.  Compliance is a daunting task and the implementation of standards, compliance with the standards, and enforcement process for potential violations of the standards is a very complex issues. Compliance audits by NERC and WECC ensure that the stakes remain high with the potential of significant penalties. Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards add another level of complexity, further demonstrating to the power industry the difficulties of legislating reliability and security. This course is a great place to start to develop an understanding of the history, processes, standards and their development, compliance, and enforcement. There are a host of important factors to consider that can have a significant impact on bulk power systems planning and operations. One of the key tenets that supports compliance, and can help mitigate a potential penalty, is a robust culture of compliance.  To demonstrate a culture of compliance, a registered entity must show an enterprise- wide commitment to the process.
